The School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University, organized an Experiential Learning Program on mushroom cultivation from 18 February to 25 April 2025. The training was guided by Dr Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Professor, and focused on building practical knowledge among undergraduate agriculture students.
During the program, students learned how to prepare growing media, inoculate culture, and observe mushroom growth. They also worked with tools like autoclaves, laminar air flow chambers, and BOD incubators. The training helped them understand each step of mushroom farming, from selecting the growing material to harvesting and post-harvest handling.
Students were also taught to maintain proper conditions for spawning development and fruiting. They took part in cleaning, harvesting, packaging, and even selling mushrooms on campus. This helped them learn basic communication and marketing skills.
A total of seven students took part in the program. It ended on 24 April 2025 with a certificate ceremony attended by Prof (Dr) Sharad Pandey, Director, and Prof (Dr) Rajendra Prasad, Head of Department. The training gave students useful skills and helped them gain confidence in mushroom farming.
