On 11 April 2025, an enriching educational visit to the Vidhan Sabha, Dehradun, Uttarakhand was organized for the students of Political Science of the School of Liberal Arts. This educational outing was attended by 55 students enrolled in the BA & MA (Political Science). The visit aimed to provide students with a practical understanding of the political process, firsthand knowledge about and the functioning of the state's legislative assembly of the state and to understand the democratic process at the state level. At the Vidhan Sabha, an assistant head provided with information and knowledge about how the Vidhan Sabha works, including the different types of ministers, their duties, and other rules and regulations, as well as the process of bill passing. The assistant head had a thorough conversation with all the students present, allowing them to ask questions about the Vidhan Sabha and its functioning.
The visit to the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha was a highly enriching experience. It helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of democratic governance. Such educational visits are essential for students to grasp the workings of political institutions and develop a deeper appreciation for the democratic framework of India. The experience was new and impressive for all the students. Dr Sushma Jaiswal, Associate Professor at the School of Liberal Arts coordinated the visit under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Director, School of Liberal Arts.
