UIM, Dehradun Organises Workshop on “Understanding Indian Stocks and Securities: A Practical Workshop for Future Investors”

The Fintech Club of UIM, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, recently hosted a two-day practical workshop on " “Understanding Indian Stocks and Securities: A Practical Workshop for Future Investors" on 12 February and 13 February 2025. This workshop aimed to equip future investors with a robust understanding of the financial markets. The event was held in the esteemed presence of Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Director, UIM and Dr Tilottama Singh, HOD, UIM. The workshop drew enthusiastic participation from the MBA students. 

The event featured Dr Priya Agarwal, a distinguished financial market trainer from NISM, Mumbai, who shared her extensive expertise on the intricacies of the Indian capital market. In her engaging sessions, Dr Agarwal explained the structure of the Indian stock market and highlighted the operations of key exchanges like the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). She detailed various investment avenues available in the market, emphasizing both traditional and contemporary options to diversify portfolios. 

Dr Agarwal also provided practical tips on the dos and don’ts for investors, stressing the importance of informed decision-making and caution against hasty investments. A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to demonstrating the use of the Sarthi app—a digital tool designed to streamline investment processes. She guided participants through the necessary documentation required to open trading and demat accounts, ensuring that future investors are well-prepared to enter the market. 

Additionally, the session addressed critical issues such as Ponzi schemes, warning attendees to remain vigilant and conduct thorough research before investing. The workshop was widely praised for its clarity, practical insights, and actionable advice, marking a significant step toward enhancing financial literacy in the region.
