Uttaranchal University celebrates National Librarians Day

The Knowledge Resource Centre at Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, celebrated National Librarians Day on 12 August 2024 to honour the enduring legacy of Padma Shri Dr S R Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. This day is dedicated to commemorating his monumental contributions to the field of Library and Information Science. 

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Dr Ranganathan, followed by the University Kulgeet by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Anuradha Joshi, Vice- of Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies and Research, Shri Jitender Joshi, President, Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice- President, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice- Chancellor and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor.  

Dr Ramveer Tanwar, University Librarian, delivered the welcome address and emphasized the vital role of library services in fostering quality education and enhancing teaching methodologies. The dignitaries then unveiled the latest edition of the KRC Newsletter, e-Bibliotheca Bulletin, Vol. 3 Issue 1. 

Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor highlighted the importance of knowledge centres in students' academic and personal growth. Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice Chancellor, emphasized the need for increased student engagement and called for new initiatives to attract more users to the library. 

Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Director, Division of Research and Innovation, spoke on the challenges faced by library professionals, advocating for technological advancements to enhance library services and inspire students to innovate. Another Dr D K Pandey, Principal Technical Officer at CSIR-IIP Dehradun motivated the library staff to maintain their excellent service. 

Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice- President, Uttaranchal University shared her reflections on the vital role that libraries play, while University President Shri Jitendra Joshi congratulated the library professionals and extended his blessings to the award recipients.  

The “Best Library User Award” was awarded to faculty members and students. The top three faculty members recognized were Ms Garima Chuphal, Dr Radhey Shyam Jha, and Dr Ramakant Tripathi. Among students, awardees included Mr Aman Kumar Bansal, Mr Arvind Kumar, Mr Shikhar Nidhi, Ms Adimulam Hasini Sri Sai Anjani, Ms Lakshika Negi, and Ms Shruti Bhatt. 

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Mr Arun Singh Thakur, Sr Gr Librarian, and was moderated by Ms Malika Payal, Assistant Professor, SLA.
