Orientation-cum-Induction Program for I year UG and PG students

The School of Agriculture (SOA) successfully organized an Orientation-cum-Induction Program for its first-year UG and PG students from 12 August to 16 September 2024. The program started with a welcome by Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean SOA, who congratulated students on choosing agriculture as a career and highlighted on various opportunities in this sector. Dr Rajendra Prasad, HoD, SOA, introduced the department, its facilities, and the experienced faculty members to the new students. On the second day, new students visited various facilities, including laboratories, the Crop Research Centre (CRC), Crop Cafeteria, Polyhouse, NADEP Pits, Vermicompost Unit, Rainwater Harvesting System, Solid Waste Treatment Plant, and Biogas Plant in SOA and other offices of the University. Furthermore, the Departmental Exam Coordinator briefed students about the examination system, evaluation schemes, rules, and codes of conduct. On 4 September, Dr A K Sharma, Professor, Horticulture, GBPUAT, Uttarakhand and Head KVK Dhakrani, Dehradun delivered a guest lecture on emerging career opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors. Subsequently, students were introduced to the Anti-Ragging Squad and completed anti-ragging formalities. 

During the orientation programme, an educational tour to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra was organised, where students were demonstrations on weeding, air layering, contouring, planting fruit plants, and livestock management. The program concluded on 16 September with an inspiring session by alumnus Mr Pravesh Kumar, who shared his journey as an agricultural entrepreneur specializing in poultry farming and multilayer vegetable farming.
