School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University organized a guest lecture delivered by Dr Razdan Sarin Rahman, Head Centre for Livelihood and Social Entrepreneurship, School of Social Work, TISS, Guwahati who highlighted the aspects of financial planning, budgeting and accountancy in non-profit organisations, evaluation, and assessment.
Dr Razdan enlightened the audience present in the seminar hall by his insights that he had gained from years of experience in the social field working with people for their development. Through his interactive approach, he motivated students and opened their minds towards the importance of aptitude required to work in the social development field. He also emphasised that it was more important to organise and mobilise poor people and farmers in order to motivate them to participate in government schemes, take loans and participate in meetings. Dr Rahman clarified on the conceptual definition of social enterprise as an addon to the existing definitions of entrepreneurship that focus solely on profit.
By giving examples like Green Tourism, Dr Rahman engaged students with his speech and evoked in them a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm towards the social world we live in and how the world operates. The focus of the talk was the integration of hard sciences on which the imagination of livelihood exists, to transform it into social enterprises with a shift to focus on social welfare along with profit making. The event was followed by a discussion and questionnaire session by students.
The guest lecture organized by SLA at Uttaranchal University was a commendable add on to the existing academic activities to share insights from the ground level and field-based experience.
The event was duly coordinated by Ms Paridhi Joshi, Assistant Professor, SLA under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA.
