Law College Dehradun Organized National Debate Competition - 2023

 

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University organized the 5th edition of Concours De Debat National Debate Competition - 2023 competition on the topic “Excessive Urbanization and Industrialization are responsible for the conversion of villages into Old Age Homes” on 27 October 2023. Senior advocate and Former Advocate general of Punjab and Haryana, Mr. Ashok Agarwal was the Chief Guest on the occasion while the Vice President, of Uttaranchal University Dr. Satbir Sehgal was present as a special guest and Dr. G. S. Chauhan, Dr. A. K. Srivastava, and Mr. Pradeep Sati presided as the judges of the event.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University and Dean Law College Dehradun Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna proudly averred that 130 teams from renowned universities and colleges registered while 25 teams reached Dehradun after successfully completing the initial round online. Those speaking in favor of the motion, strongly argued that excessive urbanization and industrialization have affected the village culture and resulted in the loss of love and affection of people towards their roots and families. They argued how the elderly dwell in the wait of their children all through their lives and presented relevant facts to substantiate their arguments. Those speaking against the motion defended urbanization and industrialization as necessities of the changing times and how the underdevelopment of villages and scarcity of basic facilities like health and education have compelled the young generation to move to the cities.

In his address, Senior Advocate Ashok Agarwal said that there is a need to have a balanced approach because there is as much need for the care of the elderly in the villages as there is for economic development and in the present scenario, urbanization is also necessary for technical knowledge and research because it has now become the criterion for the development of civilization.
