In furtherance of the Department of Civil Engineering's ongoing commitment to the comprehensive development of its students, a site visit to Simran Associate's Construction Site, located in Premnagar, Dehradun, was meticulously organized on the 4th of October 2023. This educational endeavor catered specifically to the first and second-year students pursuing the Civil Engineering program. The site visit was organized by Mr. Gaurav Thakur, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, and was impeccably coordinated by Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, Head of Civil Engineering, and Mr. Vinod Balmiki, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering. The site visit was facilitated by Mr. Pushkar, the Site Engineer.

The commencement of the site visit was marked by an inspirational address from Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey, Dean of UIT, who, in his wisdom, motivated the students and extended his wishes for their successful exploration of the construction site. A total of 56 students, encompassing both first and second-year cohorts of the B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) program, enthusiastically participated in this enlightening visit.

The objectives of the site visit were to familiarize students with structural drawings, develop their ability to read site drawings, understand construction procedures and management, grasp practical aspects of reinforcement, shuttering, and casting for various structural elements, and gain knowledge of construction quality control.

During the site visit to the construction site comprising two interconnected towers with a common basement, students were provided with comprehensive insights into various construction facets. They initially explored the basement through one of the towers, where they learned about the establishment of Temporary Benchmarks (TBM) for project initiation, encountered different foundation types, delved into the nuances of footing construction, examined design and structural aspects of foundations, scrutinized drawings related to retaining walls, and grasped the practical application of gridlines in construction drawings. Subsequently, on the stilt floor, students were exposed to the layout of columns, the utilization of starters for column shuttering, the interpretation of reinforcement drawings for columns and beams, diverse structural considerations in column design, and the intricacies of shuttering techniques. Additionally, practical knowledge encompassing the shuttering of slabs, reinforcement of slabs, staircase construction, and casting techniques was imparted to students from both semesters.
