Industrial visit to “Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory” (TBRL)

Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University Dehradun organised an industrial visit to “Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory” (TBRL) of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) Chandigarh on 29 March 2023 For the students of PG & UG ( BCA, BSc-IT and MCA) 


TBRL conducts basic and applied research in the fields of high explosives, detonics and shock waves. It is also involved in evolving data and design parameters for new armaments and assessing the terminal effects of ammunition. 


The students were welcomed by scientists of TBRL Dr. Pramod Kumar Soni Scientist F JD (AIG), Dr. Rajiv Kumar Scientist F. The students got to know about how and why ballistic research is carried out and what is the role of IT in ballistic. In TBRL students visited three different laboratories  


Firstly, the students were made aware by expertise and specialized about the facilities for ballistic evaluation of bulletproof panels/helmets against various small arms ammunition. 


Secondly, the students were told about the precautions to be taken in blast situations and how TBRL is working on creating new technologies to reduce the impacts of Blasts. Like Blasting Device (BBD) Designed for breaching operation.  


Lastly, the visit ended with a very interesting topic incorporating railway track with missile testing. The TBRL also uses this technique to test parachutes from ISRO.  


The visit was successfully coordinated by Dr. Tushar Anthwal, Mr. Sameer Dev Sharma, and MS. Manisha Saini. The visit was fruitful for the students. It was truly an amazing experience in TBRL DRDO, CHANDIGARH.
