Workshop On Climate Change Evidence in the context of Uttarakhand State: Awareness program

Global warming and climate change issues are hot topics nowadays in the scientific communities for finding a pathway for sustainable development. Climate change studies confirm the fact that anthropogenic activities and their impact on global as well as regional scales have drastically increased. 


In view of the project’s objective to spread awareness regarding climate change impacts on various natural resources over the Uttarakhand State. In this context a workshop cum awareness program has been scheduled in the Government Degree College, Dakpathar, Vikas Nagar Dehradun, where lectures on different aspects of climate change impact are delivered by eminent personalities. On this occasion, Dr. Pooja Jindal, a Scientist from IIRS- ISRO, and Dr. G. L Semwal Principal Government Degree College, Dakpathar, Vikas Nagar Dehradun, inaugurated the event with other delegates. In his welcome speech, Prof. (Dr.) G. L Semwal, Principal Government Degree College, stated that the local weather has changed and its repercussions are clearly visualized in our daily life. The workshop coordinator from Uttaranchal University address the gathering and give an overview of the climate and climate change phenomena. He also stressed the role of everyone to mitigate the future impact of climate change scenarios. Chief guest Dr. Pooja Jindal emphasizes the role of aerosols and their sources in the context of climate change. She gave insight into how the atmosphere is affected by various GHGs and how to protect our environment from black carbon emissions. The workshop emphasized focused on the identification of the evidence ground-level impacts and their scientific solutions. Dr. Narendra Singh from ARIES, Nainital Uttarakhand gave detailed inputs regarding climate change scenarios captured by various studies, and give insight to students not using such materials which are responsible to degrade ecosystem health. Dr. D.S. Rawat, Deputy Director, of the watershed department stated that farmers are adopting the advanced technology solution and related processes for mitigating future climate change impacts as well as growing their production. Dr.R.P. Singh Deputy Director of the watershed department gives his views on societal awareness and shared the questions and answers about climate change phenomena and its impact on various aspects, with some examples in horticulture. Dr. A. Thapliyal, a Scientist from the Uttarakhand Science and Technology, shared her views on the climate change impact on Glacier and water resources of Uttarakhand, awareness and shared the questions and answers about climate change phenomena and its impact on various aspects, with some examples in the Uttarakhand Himalayan regions as well as status Riecpana river in Dehradun during the last 3 decades. The panelist/ Professor (Dr.) Rakhi Dimri and Dr. Vinod Rawat from the Degree College Dakpathar have also shared their views.
