Recognizing the urgent need for cleanliness and sanitation in our country, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Uttaranchal University organized a Swachh Bharat Mission on September 1st, 2022. The initiative aimed to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness and promote responsible waste management.

With the active participation of approximately 100 students from various academic disciplines, the NSS unit of the university organized a cleanliness drive in the surrounding areas of the university campus. The surroundings of the university campus are the village Nanda ki Chowki in which there exists a slum area demanding hygiene practice. The focus of the event was more on spreading awareness among the local community rather than solely providing services.

The people in the local community were deeply moved by the selfless service and efforts of the young students, prompting them to join hands in cleaning the dirty lanes and streets. Many women also actively participated alongside the university volunteers and praised them wholeheartedly. Both boys and girls were equally involved in the service, which made the NSS unit proud of its dedicated volunteers.

The event was coordinated by Dr. V.K. Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Mr. Gaurav Singh Negi, and Mr. Praveen Shah.
