A Workshop “Intellectual Property Rights & Patents” was held on 26 April, 2022 in Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day. Mr. Ashish Kumar, Patent Attorney, New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Dr. Rajesh Singh, Director R&I, Dr. Anita Gahlot, Head R&I and Prof. (Dr.) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS were the Guests of the event.
The event began with the felicitation of the guest and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Prof. (Dr.) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor elaborated on the importance of intellectual property right that provides protection over any novel invention as well as gives the exclusive right to sell, use, create and/or manufacture the patented product. The pharmaceutical sector is an area that is at the boom. He further explained that patenting inventions is one parameter that enhances the strengths of a country economically. India has emerged as a manufacturing source for high-quality pharmaceuticals that are recognized and accepted globally.
Mr. Ashish Kumar shared views on IPR and also explained the importance of creating IPR awareness among the faculty and students. He also elucidated the details of patent filing and procedure including the fee details in India and the career opportunities. Dr. Anita Gahlot in her session explained how to apply for a patent, and what is Trademarks and Copyrights Perspective. She said that the Pharmaceutical Industry is a prime source of medical innovation and in such companies, intellectual property is indeed the most valuable resource which contributes significantly. The latter speaker took all the doubts and queries of all the participants. Dr. Amit Semwal, accorded the vote of gratitude at the end of this enlightening session and the event was smoothly anchored by Mrs. Kiran Dobhal.
