The Department of Physics, SALS, Uttaranchal University conducted two Days National Workshop on Methods of Material Characterization & Instrumental Techniques for students, research scholars and faculties on April 27-28, 2023. The chief-Guest, Prof. Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University emphasized to conduct the oriented and meaningful research to achieve sustainable development. Prof. Ajay Singh, Dean SALS on his inaugural address shared his deep insights on the role of characterization techniques. Prof. B. S. Rawat, convener, briefed about the objectives of the event and encouraged the participants to learn various characterization techniques. The talk was started with the invited lecture by Dr. N. C. Joshi, Assistant Prof., Division of Research and Innovation, highlighting the basics and importance of FTIR technique. Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, Assistant Prof., delivered his lecture on fundamental knowledge and applications of inorganic and hybrid perovskites. Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Dubey, Assistant Prof., Department of Pure & Applied Physics, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Koni, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh delivered the lecture on mechanical properties of amorphous solids: study of serrated signals via molecular dynamics simulation. He also highlighted the advancement in Raman characterization spectroscopic technique.
The second day of workshop started with the lecture session delivered by Dr. B. S. Rawat, Dr. R. Dhyani, Dr. H. Sharma, Dr. N. Kumar and Dr. P Rawat on the basics of various characterization techniques. This was followed by the visit of the participants to material synthesis labs. The hands-on-experiment session started with the demonstration of XRD instrument at R&I department by Dr. Sweta Singh. A powder sample was characterized in full scanning range. Further, the demonstration of SEM/EDX characterization of the samples in SEM machine was presented by Ms. Ashima. The FTIR, UV-Vis Spectrometer and other available instruments were also demonstrated by Dr. N. C. Joshi. The workshop witnessed total 37 participants. At the valedictory function, Dr. Reena Dhyani, proposed the vote of thanks on the behalf of the School of Applied and & Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University.
