The School of Applied & Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm by organizing a Plantation Drive and an enlightening seminar on the theme “Vriksha Bandhan”, emphasizing the vital relationship between humans and nature. The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among students and faculty members.
The event was graced by Dr. Manmohan Rawat, Senior Scientist and Research Head, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun, as the keynote speaker. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Rawat in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Dean, School of Applied & Life Sciences, Dr. V. K. Srivastava, and Dr. Nishesh Sharma.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh highlighted the significance of the Vriksha Bandhan initiative and emphasized the profound bond between human beings and the natural environment. He encouraged students to actively participate in tree plantation activities and environmental conservation programmes, fostering a sense of responsibility towards preserving green ecosystems and ensuring a sustainable future.
In his keynote address, Dr. Manmohan Rawat elaborated on the environmental, ecological, and social importance of trees. He discussed their crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and supporting sustainable development. He inspired the students to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and strengthen their commitment to nature by planting and nurturing trees as a symbol of harmony between humanity and the environment.
Following the seminar, a plantation drive was conducted within the university campus, where students enthusiastically participated by planting saplings and pledging to protect and nurture them. Around 25 students actively took part in the plantation activity.
