On the occasion of World Environment Day, Uttaranchal University organized a tree plantation programme under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name). The event was jointly organized by the School of Agriculture and Law College, Dehradun, along with an environmental awareness campaign. This initiative was conducted in accordance with the vision of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, and Government of India to promote environmental conservation and public participation.
During the programme, students, faculty members, and staff enthusiastically participated in planting various medicinal and aromatic plants in the Navgrah Vatika located within the university campus. A total of 135 medicinal plants had already been established in this garden.
Hon’ble Presiding, Ms. Ankita Joshi, Vice President of Uttaranchal University, planted medicinal saplings along with the students, reinforcing the official World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature: Plantation for Our Future and Climate.” The programme was graced by Vice-Chancellor- Prof. Dr. Dharam Buddhi; Pro Vice-Chancellor - Prof. Rajesh Bahuguna; Director School of Agriculture- Prof. Dr. Rajendra Prasad; President of the Literary Society- Prof. Anil Kumar Dixit; Director USCS - Prof. Sonal Sharma, and Director, ICIC - Prof. Dr. Anita Gehlot, along with Dr. Mansi Nautiyal, Dr. Atin Kumar, Assistant Professor, SOA with hundreds of students, all of whom actively contributed to the plantation drive.
On this occasion, students presented a short skit highlighting the need for collective efforts to address environmental challenges. They also encouraged participants to adopt environmentally sustainable practices in their daily lives.
At the conclusion of the programme, the participants pledged to take care of and protect the planted saplings. They also resolved to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives and inspire others to contribute towards building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
