Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized a two-day workshop on Cyber Security and SOC in association with CompTIA from 13 to 14 November 2025 for BCA Cyber Security students. The Objective of the workshop was to provide students with practical knowledge of cybersecurity operations, including hands-on experience with AD, SIEM, threat detection, and cloud-based log analysis.
The expert for the session was Mr. Samaksh Kaushik, a Red Teamer and SOC Associate from CompTIA.
Prof. (Dr.) Sonal Sharma, Director-USCS, emphasized the need for continuous vigilance and robust cyber awareness, highlighting that the nature of cyber threats is constantly changing.
The expert provided clear, hands-on explanations as the workshop combined both foundational and investigative cybersecurity training. Students built AD and SIEM lab environments using VMs, a Domain Controller, SIEM tools, and Sysmon, practicing essential AD operations, log analysis, and event identification. They then advanced to investigation tasks using Splunk to analyze attack logs and create detections, followed by cloud simulations on AWS and Azure to understand log flow in real-world infrastructures.
Mr. Pradipto Chakrabarty, Regional Director (South Asia) - CompTIA, also interacted with the students, addressing their queries and sharing practical insights from industry experience.
The workshop concluded with a short assessment quiz. Prashant Mall (BCA V) secured the first position, Maris (BCA III) achieved second place, and Himanshu Singh (B.Sc. IT) earned the third position.
Under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sameer Dev Sharma, HoD-USCS, the workshop was successfully coordinated by Mr. Nitin Sharma and Mr. Sanjay Mishra with the support of Ms. Manisha Saini, Ms. Manisha Khanduja, Mr. Vipul Kashyap, and student volunteers.
