The School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University, organised an educational visit to the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, for the UG and PG students on 26th September. The visit was planned to give exposure to the students in the application of different fields of agriculture. At the institute, students visited different galleries such as Insect Museum, Timber, Non-Wood Forest Products, Forest Pathology, and Biodiversity Conservation. The exhibits gave them clarity into how forests contribute to soil health, water conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable farming practices.
The lush green campus and colonial architecture of FRI also impressed the students, giving them knowledge of history along with science. Faculty members explained the importance of beneficial insects in agriculture, highlighting topics like agroforestry, watershed management, and climate resilience. Students showed interest in modern methods for conserving native species and tree improvement techniques, which encouraged them to think about broader applications in agriculture.
