The Uttaranchal School of Computing Sciences (USCS), Uttaranchal University, organised an Electoral Literacy Awareness Programme on 18 August 2025 to promote electoral awareness and encourage responsible participation in the democratic process. The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Faculty Coordinator, who highlighted the importance of electoral literacy and active citizen participation in the democratic process. An awareness session on the electoral process and voter registration was conducted to provide participants with comprehensive information about the functioning of the electoral system in India. The session explained the eligibility criteria for voter registration, the procedure for enrolling as a new voter, the documents required for registration, and the online facilities available through the Election Commission of India for voter registration and updating electoral details. Participants were also informed about the importance of ethical voting, informed decision-making, and the responsibilities of every citizen in maintaining a healthy democratic system. The interactive session encouraged participants to ask questions and clarified various aspects of the electoral process.
Following the awareness session, all participants took the Voter Awareness Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to uphold democratic values and participate responsibly in the electoral process. Through the pledge, participants resolved to exercise their right to vote responsibly, encourage eligible citizens to register as voters, and motivate their family members, friends, and community to actively participate in elections. The pledge also emphasized the importance of ethical, informed, and inclusive electoral participation for strengthening the democratic framework of the nation.
The programme successfully enhanced participants' understanding of the electoral process and the importance of voter registration. The awareness session increased their knowledge of voter eligibility, registration procedures, and the responsibilities associated with being an informed voter. The voter awareness pledge further reinforced their commitment to democratic values and inspired them to promote electoral participation within their communities.
