The School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University, organized an awareness session titled ‘Empowering Sustainable Future: An Outreach Initiative on Agriculture Sustainability Program’ on 29th April 2025. The session began with a welcome note by Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Pandey, Director, SOA, who emphasized the importance of students contributing to the reduction of food waste.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Arvind Kumar Upadhyay from the Shivakhya Foundation, enlightened student participants on various aspects of agricultural sustainability. He specifically highlighted the necessity of adopting sustainable practices to ensure food security and protect the environment. Dr. Upadhyay discussed both local and global issues in agricultural sustainability, including food wastage in hostels, poor resource management, and declining soil fertility. He shared practical case studies and stressed the importance of minimizing food wastage at the institutional level. Dr. Upadhyay also suggested feasible lifestyle changes to help reduce waste and motivated students to actively engage in sustainability initiatives and contribute positively to agricultural development. He addressed participants’ questions and doubts satisfactorily.
The event was coordinated by Mansi Nautiyal and concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, HoD, SOA.
