On 25 March 2025, Uttaranchal College of Nursing, Uttaranchal University organized an educational visit to Ganga Prem Hospice Center, Raiwala, Rishikesh, for B.Sc. Nursing 4th Semester students as part of their curriculum practices.
The purpose of the visit was to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of hospice care and its significance in end-of-life support.
The event began with an introduction to hospice care by the center’s staff, who explained the mission, values, and goals of hospice services. A brief overview highlighted the differences between hospice care and traditional medical care, emphasizing palliative treatments and the curative approaches.
Participants were then given a guided tour of the hospice center, visiting various departments such as patient rooms, family support areas, and specialized care units. This tour offered attendees a firsthand look at how care is provided in a home-like environment designed to ensure comfort and dignity.
Experts in palliative care - including doctors, nurses, and social workers, delivered presentations on key topics such as pain management, the role of volunteers, and the emotional challenges faced by patients and families. They also emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary teams in delivering comprehensive care.
Following the presentations, a Q&A session allowed attendees to engage with the experts. This interactive discussion clarified several aspects of hospice care and provided valuable insights into its real-world applications.
The event concluded with a reflection session where attendees shared their thoughts on the experience. Closing remarks were delivered by the event organizer, who thanked the hospice center staff and participants for their time and dedication to learning.
