Law College Dehradun honored the International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2024 by organizing a seminar on the topic, ‘Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now’. The program was organized under the joint aegis of Uttarakhand Human Rights Protection Center and Pro Bono Club established by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. Mr Premchand Agarwal, Cabinet Minister in the State Government was the Chief Guest on this occasion while Mr Rajesh Tandon, former Chairman of Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission Justice and Mr Mukesh Thakur, SP Traffic were present as special guests.
Kunwar Raj Asthana, National Secretary, Uttarakhand Human Rights Protection Center highlighted the objectives and achievements of the center. The Centre honored the great men who have made a significant contribution in the protection of human rights. Ms Ankita Joshi, Mr Chandragupta Vikram, Mr Sabir Ali, Mr Shandhunath Gautam, Mr Arun Kumar Yadav, Mr Dhupendra Laxmi, Mr VD Sharma, Mrs Vandana Shrivastava, Mr Vimal Dabral, Mr Ranbir Singh, Dr Sushil Ojha, Harkal Foundation received the honour during the event.
Shri Premchand Agarwal, Cabinet Minister stated that without the protection of human rights, injustice and anarchy would spread in society. Justice Rajesh Tandon said that the Preamble and Articles 38 and 39A contained in the Constitution of India are an extended form of human rights quoting the cases decided by the Supreme Court. Superintendent of Police Mukesh Thakur said that while the police have an important role in the protection of human rights, the cooperation of the public is also important to curb road accidents.
Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice- President said that human rights are our natural rights and every institution of the world and even every capable person can play an important role in their protection. Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice- Chancellor said that the protection and guarantee of basic rights of man is the basis of sustainable development.
