To cater the need of understanding increased stress and anxiety among students, Faculty of Nursing, Uttaranchal College of Nursing, Uttaranchal University organized a ‘Med Talk’ on Mental health on 12 March 2024. The aim of the talk was to educate students about various aspects of mental well-being. Around 100 students participated in the session. The session commenced with a lamp lighting ritual, seeking blessings of Goddess Saraswati. A welcome speech was given by Ms. Sheetal, student of B Sc Nursing II semester, extending gratitude to all the dignitaries & students for their presence. 

The speaker of the event was Dr Ankita Priyadarshini, a consultant Psychiatrist. She introduced students to the concepts of mental health & its significance in overall well-being, highlighting its impact in their life and both academic & personal front. The Session addressed the stigma associated with mental illness and importance of creating a supportive & inclusive environment for all. Our expert acquainted with participants sign and symptoms related to mental health issues and encouraged them to recognize these symptoms in themselves & others. 

In addition, she advised various coping mechanisms including journal writing, for managing stress and encouraged students to talk proactive steps towards prioritizing their mental health by practicing self-care, adopting healthy lifestyle practices in their daily routine. 

Overall, the talk served as a positive step towards promoting a culture of support & understanding towards the mental health among the students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Monika Massey to the dignitaries & students.
