The Psychology Counseling
Cell of the School of Liberal Arts (SLA), Uttaranchal University, conducted a
mental health awareness visit to Kolhupani Village on 6th February 2024. This
initiative aimed to address mental health issues within the village,
reinforcing students’ commitment to social responsibility and mental health
literacy. The visit's objectives were to engage with the community to identify
prevalent mental health issues, raise awareness about mental health disorders
and treatment options, and foster a culturally sensitive dialogue to reduce
stigma.
Psychology students distributed questionnaires to
evaluate residents’ prior knowledge of mental health, their willingness to seek
professional help and the overall need for further mental health awareness
initiatives. The questionnaires provided valuable data, demonstrating
significant progress in residents' understanding and receptiveness towards
mental health support since the initial visit. The progress observed included
reduced stigma, improved understanding of mental health conditions, and a
stronger willingness among residents to seek help.
The EK SAMVAAD visit
highlighted the Psychology Counseling Cell’s dedication to mental health
awareness and social responsibility, fostering understanding, empowering
residents, and strengthening the connection between the students and the
community.
