The School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University organized a student training session cum Experiential Learning Program (ELP) on Sericulture on the university campus from 6th March to 29th April 2023. The primary objective of this session was to enhance students' skills in various aspects of sericulture, encompassing activities such as rearing, handling, brushing, mounting silk cocoons on different mountages, post-harvest silk processing techniques, stifling cocoons, sorting defective cocoons, and reeling high-quality silk thread.
This training session provided a hands-on learning experience and in-depth knowledge to the students of SOA in the field of sericulture. Dr. Mohsin Ikram, Assistant Professor at SOA and a subject expert, imparted comprehensive knowledge on the collection and processing of mulberry leaves for feeding silkworms. Furthermore, he covered crucial processes such as cleaning the worms, managing the growth of silkworms, and handling silkworm diseases. The training session also included valuable insights into the value addition of silk yarn.
