The School of Liberal Arts organized a one-day educational visit to the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIVH), Dehradun on 25th April 2023. The visit equipped the students with the practical aspects of Psychology and the sensitivity & responsibilities associated with the job title of Mental Health Professionals.
The students visited OPD of the Clinical & Rehabilitation Psychology Department where they observed the clients with psychological ailments and the process of case history taking, case analysis and Mental Status Examination. The students were also told about the different assessment tests for the diagnosis of the disorder. They were further guided towards Early Intervention Centre (EIC) where the M. Phil interns described the various therapies including speech, occupational, multi- sensory integration and others. The school for hearing and visually impaired children was also visited by the students where the various instruments and modalities were shown through which the person with disabilities is taught.
Mr Surender Dhalwal, HOD, Department of Clinical Psychology addressed the students regarding various ethical and legal issues associated with the field of Mental Health. He further answered the queries of the students with respect to the emerging branches of Psychology and their relevance in present scenario.
Overall, the visit acquainted the students with the actual picture of Mental Health Professionals and the functionaries of a hospital. It also helped the students to develop a sense of responsibility and sensitivity which is immensely required in the field of Mental Health. The visit was organized by Mr Ashutosh Sharma under the supervision of Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean, SLA and Dr Reeta Rautela, HoD, SLA. Mr Komil Kumar, Dr Shreya Chaudhary, Mr Saneet Kumar and Ms Shilpi Prakash; faculty of Psychology from School of Liberal Arts accompanied the students.
