Law College Dehradun organized a Door-to-Door legal camp in the village of Nakatpur, Kotra Santaur, Dehradun on 18th January 2023 under the aegis of Legal Aid Centre. The event was initiated under the guidance of the Dean, Law College Dehradun, and Director of Legal Aid Centre, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna. HOD, Law College Dehradun and Dy. Director of Legal Aid Centre, Prof. Dr. Poonam Rawat, and Chairperson of Legal Aid Centre, Mr. Abhiranjan Dixit.The event was conducted under the leadership of Mr. Sudeep Chandra and Mr. Nehal Ray, and the aim of the visit was to spread information regarding government benefits that can be availed by the marginalized section of society through the Legal Aid Centre Scheme.
Foremost, the members of the Legal Aid centre visited a local welding shop to interact with the laborers in the Nakatpur village. The laborers were informed about the different schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana in which medical benefits of up to 5 lakhs will be provided. The question that was raised by the workers were regarding the use of government cards and support to the senior citizen. The provisions of the EWS certificate were also explained as to how to avail of the certificate that provides reservation in services. The topics of dowry and maintenance of women, children, and senior citizens were some of the topics that were explained in which the Pro Bono can assist them in getting a legal remedy.
It was explained that a network of Pro Bono advocates and alumni is created which will help them in getting government benefits or any other legal support that they require. The importance of the Nyayabandhu mobile application was also highlighted through which the cases are registered and then worked upon. There was a distribution of pamphlets for disseminating the contact number of the Legal Aid centre in accordance with the Tele-Law scheme.
There are 5 villages under the Panchayat including Nakatpur, Kotra Santur, Kolu Pani upper, Kolu Pani lower, and Nanda Ki Chowki. The problem put forth by Gram Pradhan was the ignorance regarding the availability and applicability of government benefits to migrant workers and availing the government benefit cards. The Gram Pradhan was later informed about the working of and objective of the Legal Aid Centre scheme of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India was explained to show the credibility of the visit.
