The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) organized a Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme on 23rd September 2025 as part of its mental health awareness initiatives. The programme was led by Ms. Sanya Bisht, student of MA Clinical Psychology, aiming to sensitize students about the importance of early recognition, support, and intervention in suicide prevention.
Ms. Sanya introduced the theme and shared facts about suicide prevention, aligning with World Suicide Prevention Month (September) while covering myths and facts about suicide, common risk factors, and protective factors that promote resilience. The audience was introduced to the concept of gatekeeping, recognizing warning signs and offering immediate support, which encouraged participants to take an active role in suicide prevention.
The programme then followed with an open discussion where students and faculty members shared their thoughts and questions, leading to a heartfelt conversation about ways to create a supportive and stigma-free campus environment. Participants appreciated the initiative, expressing that it not only raised awareness but also equipped them with practical tools to support those in crisis. The event made a significant impact by fostering empathy, encouraging help-seeking behavior, and reminding everyone that suicide prevention is a shared responsibility. Prof. (Dr.) Shalini Vohra, Director, SLA, appreciated all the students for their active participation. The event was duly coordinated by Ms. Shilpi Prakash, Assistant Professor, SLA.
