The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology organized an online guest lecture titled "Modelling of Dielectric Elastomer Minimum Energy Structure-based Actuators for Soft Robotics Applications" on 10 March 2025.
The guest lecture began with a lamp lighting ceremony at the Seminar Hall, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, and was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Prof (Dr) Sumit Chaudhary, Director, UIT, and Dr Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering apart from faculty members and students.
The objective of the guest lecture was to introduce the students with properties of dielectric elastomers and their potential to create actuators with high efficiency, flexibility, and minimal energy consumption, making them ideal for soft robotics applications.
The lecture waa delivered by Dr Aman Khurana, Assistant Professor, IIT Indore, an expert in soft robotics and advanced materials, focused on the role of dielectric elastomer actuators in soft robotics. Dr. Khurana discussed the unique properties of DEMES (Dielectric Elastomer Minimum Energy Structure, highlighting their efficiency, flexibility, and low energy consumption, making them ideal for soft robotics applications. The session also covered Minimum Energy Structure-based Actuators, their mathematical modelling, and practical aspects, along with challenges and opportunities in their design and optimization.
Following the lecture, a Q&A session allowed students to engage with the speaker on the applications of DEMES and the future of soft robotics.
The event was coordinated by Dr Alok Kumar and Mr Saurabh Aggarwal, Assistant Professors in Mechanical Engineering, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Joshi.
