The visit of the students from the School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University, to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Dehradun on 4 October 2024 provided a comprehensive learning experience. It offered them practical insights into key forensic divisions such as DNA Bio-serology, Toxicology, Cyber Forensics, and Ballistics. Divided into two groups, the students explored the various departments and learned about the preliminary and confirmatory tests conducted on forensic exhibits.
Dr Monica, the Scientific Officer, conducted an engaging session where she highlighted the importance of forensic science in the criminal justice system. She explained the role of forensic laboratories in solving crimes, identifying perpetrators, and ensuring justice by delivering accurate, reliable, and timely services. Additionally, students were introduced to critical concepts such as the "chain of custody," which ensures the proper handling of evidence from crime scenes to courtrooms.
The visit provided an interactive platform for students to bridge the gap between theory and practice, allowing them to observe real forensic procedures and understand how scientific techniques are applied in real-life crime investigations.
