2356 Degrees were awarded including 34 Gold Medals and 14 Doctorate Degrees
The fourth
convocation of Uttaranchal University was held on December 3, 2024, at the
Swami Vivekananda Auditorium in a grand and traditional manner. His Excellency, Governor of Uttarakhand,
Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.), graced the occasion as the Chief
Guest, while Hon’ble Higher Education Minister of Uttarakhand, Dr. Dhan Singh
Rawat, attended as the Guest of Honour.
His Excellency the Governor was welcomed with
a ceremonial guard of honor by the 29 UK NCC Battalion of the university.
Following this, he paid floral tributes at the Shaurya Wall of the University,
commemorating the valour and sacrifices of the Param Vir Chakra recipients.
The event began
with a display of Indian culture and traditions. The convocation procession entered the auditorium to the recitation of Swasti by the Acharyas.
The Registrar led the procession, while the Chief Guest entered last,
maintaining the sanctity of the ceremony. The atmosphere was elevated by the
chanting of Vedic mantras, creating a solemn and devotional ambience.
Welcoming the
dignitaries, Shri Jitender Joshi,
President of Uttaranchal University, presented floral bouquets and mementos to
the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. In his address, he congratulated the
graduating students and expressed pride in their achievements. He remarked that
the students, who have brought laurels to the university on global platforms,
are a true reflection of the Uttaranchal University family.
The Vice
Chancellor, Prof. Dharam Buddhi, presented the university’s annual report,
highlighting its remarkable progress and achievements. He shared that the University currently provides education to over
22,000 students, including international students from 17 countries, through
both regular and online programs. He added that 2,356 degrees, including 14
doctorates and 34 gold medals, were conferred during the ceremony. This year,
scholarships worth ₹69.22 crore were awarded under the university's merit- and
need-based financial aid programs.
Prof. Buddhi also emphasized the university’s
significant accomplishments, including its presence in the Times Higher
Education Impact Rankings 2024 and the WURI Rankings for three consecutive
years (2022, 2023, and 2024). Notably, Uttaranchal University ranked fifth
nationally and twenty-fifth globally under UNSDG Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean
Energy in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024.
The university
takes pride in having published a total of 734 Intellectual Property Rights
(IPRs), including patents, copyrights, designs, and trademarks. Its students
have found opportunities in reputed
global companies such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, and others. Additionally, Uttaranchal University
graduates are contributing to the government sector, with several serving as
officers in India’s armed forces and 72 alumni appointed as judicial officers.
Speaking on the
occasion, Hon’ble Higher Education Minister, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, lauded the
university for its commitment to excellence and innovation, which has made it a
premier institution in Uttarakhand.
During the
ceremony, internationally acclaimed businessman, drilling engineer, and
philanthropist Shri S.K. Mehta was awarded an honorary degree by His Excellency the Governor. Shri Mehta
expressed his gratitude, stating, "It is a matter of great pride for me that
Uttaranchal University has recognized my years of experience in drilling
engineering and contributions to the Indian Oil and Gas Industry."
The convocation
concluded on a high note, celebrating the achievements of the university, its
students, and its faculty while reflecting the institution's commitment to
academic excellence, research, and global impact.

Hon'ble Minister
Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat remarked that convocation is a memorable milestone in
every student's life. He highlighted the privilege of students who consider
Dehradun, the capital of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, as a pivotal part of their
educational journey. Praising the remarkable
achievements of the University, he commended the dedication and commitment of
the President, faculty, and staff of Uttaranchal University.
Addressing the
gathering, His Excellency, the Governor, emphasized that education is a
lifelong process, where learning continues until one’s last day. He urged
students to channelize their energy and knowledge into constructive endeavors,
contributing towards building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). Applauding the outstanding performance of
female students, he noted that the daughters of Uttarakhand stand out for their
exceptional achievements. He encouraged students to aspire to become job
creators rather than job seekers.
The Governor also described Uttaranchal
University's Technology 5.0 initiative
as a transformative step. Highlighting the university’s commitment to
inclusivity, he praised its provision of free education for the children of
low-paid employees and the allocation of ₹69.22 crore in scholarships as
exemplary initiatives.
In the evening, an alumni meet was organized at the University, where the alumni shared their experiences and achievements.
