Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University hosted an insightful workshop on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Drafting for the final year students on 21 November 2024. Dr Vikram Srivastav, Founder of Independent Thoughts, a prominent National Human Rights Organization presided as the keynote speaker. Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean along with Prof Poonam Rawat, Principal LCD welcomed Dr Srivastava and the team from Independent Thought. He averred that the workshop would be instrumental in rolling the MoU entered between Law College Dehradun and Independent Thought.
Dr Srivastava, a distinguished human rights lawyer and advocate against child marriage, led the session with his team, including Advocates Vishakha Singhal and Saurav Kumar, alongside LCD faculty members. He introduced students to PIL as a legal tool for addressing systemic failures and ensuring public accountability. A PPT presentation outlined the key aspects of PIL drafting, emphasizing its role in empowering individuals and promoting justice.
Training and Recruitment Division (LCDTRD), of the college coordinated the event while it was moderated by Ms Drishti Garg, Vice President, TRD and the vote of thanks was rendered by Ms Vanshita Mandrawal, Convenor, TRD. The event witnessed participation from more than 400 students.
