School of Agriculture, Uttaranchal University, organized a lecture on “Legal Rights of Women”, under the aegis of Women cell, SOA on 30 October 2023. The Guest Speaker of the lecture was Mrs Poonam Rawat, Principal & Professor, Law College, Uttaranchal University. Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh welcomed the guest key speaker Mrs Poonam Rawat, Dr Rajender Prasad, HOD, SOA, Women cell members of SOA and Students of SOA. Further, Dr Rajendra Prasad, introduced the key speaker of the day and congratulated Women Cell of SOA for organizing the lecture for the girl students. Ms Arushi Rana, Student Member, Women Cell, SOA then welcomed the Key Speaker.
The speaker stated that nearly ninety percent of women are unaware of their rights, and that it is essential for every woman to be aware of her rights to receive appropriate justice. During her presentation, she emphasized the significance of constitutional provisions and special laws pertaining to women and girl children. She provided a detailed discussion of the specific provisions made to elevate the less fortunate members of society. Mrs Poonam continued by providing a definition of women's rights before moving on to discuss the various areas of women's constitutional rights, including economic rights, protection from domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment, and women's personal laws. In particular, she addressed "The Concept of Zero FIR," "No arrest after sunset or sunrise," "Right to Anonymity," and "Virtual FIR," four of the most crucial women's rights.
Dr Poonam Rawat concluded her presentation by reassuring female students that both the university and a departmental women's cell support for their welfare and encourage them to approach the cell without hesitation in case they have any concerns, issues, or complaints.
