The Psychology Counseling Cell of the School of
Liberal Arts (SLA), Uttaranchal University, conducted a follow-up visit to
Kolhupani Village on 29 April 2024, as part of the ongoing mental
health awareness initiative, EK SAMVAAD. This visit aimed to assess the
impact of the initial visit and further address mental health issues within the
community.
Based on the issues identified through the
questionnaires, counseling sessions were conducted during the follow-up visit
to address specific mental health concerns. These sessions helped in
sensitizing the villagers about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and
promoting self-care practices. The progress observed included reduced stigma,
improved understanding of mental health conditions, and a stronger willingness
among residents to seek help.
This follow-up visit underscored the success of
the ongoing mental health awareness program, highlighting the Psychology
Counseling Cell's dedication to fostering social responsibility, empowering
residents, and strengthening the connection between the students and the local
community. By engaging directly with the community and providing targeted
counseling, students not only raised awareness but also actively contributed to
the well-being and empowerment of the residents.
