Law College Dehradun launched Niti Shastra 3.O” the third edition of the Policy Making Competition, at the National level, under the aegis of The Youth Parliament Society, on 15 June 2023. This competition intended to bring novel ideas to amend existing laws and make new ones for the better functioning of society and raise the student’s intellectual capacity to comprehend and scrutinize current laws, regulations, and other legal aspects. Around 70+ participants across the nation participated enthusiastically. Only laws and policies pertaining to the following topics were to be amended or framed by the participants: Labour Laws, Constitutional Law, Criminal Laws, Cyber Laws, Humanitarian Laws, and Family Laws. 


The event concluded on 27 February 2024, with the result declaration. The participants were able to analyze, scrutinize and comprehend every aspect of the law and came up with innovative ideas. The first position was secured by Ipshita Adhikari from IMS Unison University with the paper titled “Hands that speak: Recognising Sign language as an official language”. In consequent to her, the second position was secured by Aishwary Thapliyal from Uttaranchal University with the paper titled “Kashmir Hindu beneficiary, Protection and Settlement Act”. Somdatta Ghosh from St. Xaviers’s University secured third position with the paper titled Ummeed ki kiran (A Policy for Transgender Equality and Justice. An initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment)”. Following him, Sangeeth Krishna G.S. from Government Law College, Ernakulam secured fourth position with the paper titled Criminal Behavior and Marriage; Paving the way for Conviction-based Divorce.” 


The competition turned out to be a great success as it encouraged participants to think critically about complex issues, weighing various perspectives and potential consequences of policy decisions. Policymaking often involves collaboration and consensus-building, so the competition emphasized teamwork and communication among participants
