In order to assist the students to understand Himalayan Geology  and Rock Mechanics in order to increase their interest in the field of civil engineering along with reinforcement of the theoretical concepts learnt in the class, the Department of Civil Engineering, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, Uttaranchal University organized an industrial visit on 03 April 2023 for the students of B.Tech., Civil Engineering & M.Tech., Environmental Engineering and Construction Technology & Management to Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology , Dehradun. Mr. Surendra Singh, research scholar (Wadia Institute), welcomed the students and briefed them about the working of Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology's (WIHG) primary focus is on studying the geology, geodynamics, and seismology of the Himalayas. The Institute researches various areas, including earth sciences, environmental geology, and natural resource management. It also undertakes studies of natural hazards to understand their causes and impacts on the Himalayan region.

Students visited state-of-the-art laboratories, including a rock and mineral preparation laboratory, a sedimentology laboratory, a geochronology laboratory, and a stable isotope laboratory. The Institute also has a geo-informatics and remote sensing laboratory, which uses satellite imagery and other data sources to study the Himalayan region.

The students were then taken seismic station which continuously monitor the seismic wave and predict the occurrence of earthquake throughout the year.. Many students raised their queries and he responded to them aptly and with proper details. Students were elated by this practical exposure.

The visit proved to be a great learning experience for students. Students expressed their gratitude towards Prof. S. D. Pandey (Dean, UIT), Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli (HOD-CE) and faculty coordinators for organising such an industrial visit beyond academics to enhance their knowledge and technical skills. The students explored many practical aspects of civil engineering. Overall, it was a very good experience for the students as they learnt many new things and enhanced their knowledge. The visit was moderated by Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, HoD, Civil Engineering and successfully organized by Mr. Gaurav Thakur, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering and Mr. Ashish Pathani, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering.
