School of Agriculture (SOA) organized a Skill Development Programme on “Soil Cultivation Practices” on 16th February 2023 for the newly admitted students of Agriculture. The program was aimed at skill development of student participants in preparing the soil for planting and promoting plant growth. The session was conducted in the real agricultural fields at Chowki, a village adopted by Uttaranchal University. The program commenced with a comprehensive overview of the working principles and safe usage of agricultural tools, presented by the subject expert, Mr. Jayanti Ballabh, Assistant Professor at SOA. During the program students were engage in various filed operations of soil cultivation including breaking up compacted layers of soil surface and below the surface, mechanical turning over the soil (plowing and harrowing), contouring, terracing, etc. so that they become confident in standard operations of soil preparation before seed sowing and planting of the crops.
In addition, field experts provided demonstrations on crucial aspects crop cultivation such as methods of soil sampling, irrigation techniques, weed management, and nutrient management that will help them to understand more deeply regarding the scientific production of various agricultural crops.
