Seminar on “The role of Cooperative Entrepreneurship in sustainable development”

With an intend to bolster the growth of the students and to familiarise them with the start-up prospects of Cooperatives, Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organised Seminar on “The role of Cooperative Entrepreneurship in sustainable development” on 28 February, 2023. This program was an endeavour to deeply enrich the knowledge of all participants and provide them with career insights on Cooperative entrepreneurship and how it helps in sustainable development.


The session was started at 10:30 A.M. The resource persons for the event were Dr. Anita Kaul Gupta, Coordinator, Management Department, Institute of Cooperative Management, Ms. Rashmi Joshi, Faculty, Management Department, Institute of Cooperative Management and Ms. Rajni Sharma, Faculty and Cooperative Trainer, Management Department, Institute of Cooperative Management, Dehradun, who conducted the Seminar, to make the students aware of the new generation co-operatives and how they can have their self-sufficing future through these cooperatives. This Seminar also aimed to provide the ways for sponsoring the funding of the cooperatives.


At the outset, Ms. Manleenjot Kaur, Assistant Professor, UIM addressed the gathering and welcomed the eminent keynote speaker of the day. She emphasized that Cooperative collaboration has been a rising trend across different sectors over the last few years.

The Speakers imparted knowledge to the students and focused on various key points during the session which are as follows:

  • The speakers started with the introduction of the concept of cooperatives. They emphasized that the cooperative society is formed by only 10 members and can be started once registered with the registrar. They put forward many advantages to start a cooperative firm rather than private or public company.
  • For the clarity of the concept of the Cooperatives, the students were also shown the video of the business idea behind the Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad. There were many takeaways from this video. The students were given few prospects on funding and investment avenues in Cooperatives. 
  • The speakers gave very innovative ideas for establishing sustainable cooperatives and how cooperatives can be a concrete tool for improving the employment conditions and access to entrepreneurship.
  • The students also asked questions regarding their start-ups and how these start-ups can be converted into cooperative society.

At last vote of thanks to all the eminent resource persons, dignitaries, technical and supportive team, and participants was proposed by Dr. Tillotama Singh, HoD,UIM. Around 100 participants attended the Seminar with full zeal and exultation.
