Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized an International Webinar on “Enhancing the role of sustainable Governance”, on 7th December 2022. The International Webinar was addressed by well renowned industry expert Prof.(Dr.)Edo de Vette(Professor, Governance University, Doorn and Windesheim).
Edo de Vette is a professional speaker, consultant and entirely devoted to corporate governance and especially the new role of the Corporate Secretary. He is founder of New Public Support and the platform 24governance. His mission is to increase the impact and visibility of governance professionals, worldwide.
Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM, Uttaranchal University highlighted that the resulting environmental, social, economic and institutional challenges have made the issue of sustainability more relevant than ever, touching every aspect of our lives. To respond to these challenges, institutions and companies must jointly pursue the common goal of sustainable development.
Prof. (Dr.)Edo de Vette focused on four central aspects of governance for sustainable development – participation, policy coherence, reflexivity and adaptation, and democratic institutions He also said that Investors increasingly understand that a corporation’s performance on pertinent environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors directly affects long-term profitability—a recognition that is transforming “sustainable investing” into, more simply, “investing.” Most CEOs also now recognize that ESG issues should inform their corporate strategy. But one important constituency remains a stubborn holdout in the sustainability revolution: corporate boards. Further ,He mentioned that It is an unfortunate truth that directors tasked with securing their company’s future are often holding the enterprise back with an outdated emphasis on short-term value maximization.The webinar concluded with the question-and-answer session.
