Law College Dehradun faculty of Uttaranchal University organizes ORIENTATION-2022 gleefully inviting the new entrant

Law College Dehradun rendered a cordial invite to its new students for the under-graduate and post-graduate courses with its 15-day long gregarious induction program starting from 1 September 2022. The Induction program was organized intending to help the students transit from school to college life. It also targets to demystify the freshers to the academic culture and ethics that are being followed across the university. This will prepare them for their new role and get familiarized with the new environment including their rights, duties, and responsibilities. This program will also help students to appreciate the importance of professionalism and values and at the same time will help them establish a healthy bonding within the student community.


Day-1 Registration


Day 1 started with the registration on 1 September 2022 where students of various courses enrolled themselves after the verification of their documents by their mentors. The aim of the day was to ensure that every student feels welcomed, engaged, and excited to begin the next phase of education.


Day -2


Law College Dehradun organized its orientation program on 2nd September 2022, where the new students were welcomed by the management of the university and faculty members of Law College Dehradun as a mark of new beginning for all the freshers. The orientation began with a brief inaugural ceremony and felicitation of the guest. Hon’ble Pro Vice Chancellor & Dean Law College Dehradun Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna delivered his first Official address to the new entrants of the session 2022-23. The event began with lighting of ceremonial lamp and Saraswati Vandana followed by University Kulgeet.


Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, in his address to the freshers extended his cordial welcome to the Devbhomi of Uttarakhand and the prestigious institution of the country. He averred that it was a proud moment that amidst the students, nearly 50% of them were female students showing the competence of feminine gender even at the very initial stage. We also have students from nearly all the states and Union Territories of the nation creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere in the College. Following this he proudly introduced the assets of the college, none other than the faculty


members, who work tirelessly executing the vision and mission of the College. Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna in his inspirational speech covered various aspects of college life, assimilating students to their new surroundings besides building up a positive attitude amidst the student community.


Day-3


A session on Library was conducted by Mr. Mukul Rawat for a better understanding of the students on the rules and regulations of the library in the Institute and the process of issuing and returning of books along with the policies related to Library. Following this Ms. Poonam from the ERP section informed the students about the University ERP system. In this session, Ms. Poonam explained how to check the timetable and attendance as well as all the academic parameters related to the students.


Day-4 ADRC Orientation


Pax Optima Rerum. “Peace is the Greatest Good”


The Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre of Law College Dehradun organized its Orientation for the session 2022-23. The hall was filled with glee as the newly admitted students of the Freshers’0 batch were given their first opportunity of interaction with one of the Student Bodies of the College. This interaction, however, was different. The students who were to be addressed barely had an idea of what the processes or the concept of Alternative Dispute Resolution are. It came as an undertaking of the ADR Centre to acquaint and edify these students with the concepts as concerned above. The session began with a welcome to the students from the Centre followed by an address by the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University and Dean of Law College Dehradun, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna who also administers the ADR Centre from the helm of affairs as its Director. Prof. Bahuguna went to great lengths in his address to praise the efficacy and amiability of ADR and encouraged the students to actively take part in events associated with ADR to develop in a wholesome manner as professionals of the Law Fraternity. The session then continued with the aid of a presentation detailing all the intricacies and methodologies of Alternative Dispute Resolution. They Conveners of the Centre stated that ADR is a bright prospect for the future of the Legal profession and emphasized the fact that all students should, in one form or another, participate in the processes of Alternative Dispute Resolution to broaden their horizons of mind and develop a more holistic personality as Lawyers.


Day – 5 TRD Orientation


Training and Recruitment Division (TRD) of Law College Dehradun, organized its Orientation Program to explain the functionaries and structure of TRD. The committees of TRD i.e. Internship Committee, Placement Committee, Training Committee, Event Management Committee and the Executive team of TRD which consist of President, Vice President, Head of the Committees and Secretaries were explained by Isha Pundir. She beautifully elucidated the role of a Class Representative as well as its duties and perks and how a student can become a class representative. Tanya Shrotriya, Secretary Administration, explained the Curriculum Vitae (CV) in detail its contents and tips to enhance CV. Vanshita explained the students about the various opportunities for law students and online sources and sites for case laws like Law octopus, Live Law, SCC Online etc. In addition, she informed the students about Student Information Cell (SIC) which functions in collaboration with Placement Cell of Uttaranchal University. Lastly, Prof. Poonam Rawat concluded the session by highlighting its significance and encouraged the students to join TRD.


Day – 6 DEBSOC


Aarambh-The Debating Society of Law College Dehradun, organized orientation program in the presence of the Chairperson, Mr. Amit Kumar. The event was addressed by Mr. Swapnil Srivastava, Treasurer, Aarambh to welcome the First Year Students of BA LLB, BBA LLB and LLB Hons. Ms. Anupriya Poddar, enlightened them about the society and its history and what Aarambh truly stands for. Following this Ms. Manvi Agrawal, Convener of Aarambh explained all the details regarding the events, functionaries, and achievements of the society with the help of a detailed presentation. In between the presentation, an interactive segment was addressed by Mr. Abhishek Singh, Sr. Executive member of Aarambh regarding the dos and don'ts of public speaking. Mr. Parth Singh addressed the students regarding the debating culture and had an interactive session to clear the doubts of the students.


Day-7 MCS


Moot court society conducted its orientation program for the batch of 2022-2023 and the program was hosted by Mr Priyansh Mittal. Further Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat, Chairperson of the Moot Court Society, addressed the gathering giving a brief introduction of MCS and its functioning; with special emphasis on Research and Drafting skills that the society helps to build. Mr Kumar Amogh, along with Ms Ashwarya Bansal, of Moot Court Society, elucidated what is mooting and how it would enhance one’s CV, the flagship events of the society and how moot court society


groom students for National and International Moot Court Competitions. It was followed by the experience sharing of Mr. Siddhant Pant, Public Relation Officer and Ms. Anushka Jha 2nd-year executive members of the society and how they feel the society helped them. In the end, the President of the Moot Court Society, Mr. Krishna Rastogi, had a Q&A session and encouraged young minds on how one can become multi-tasking and how practical knowledge of the law is important. The event concluded with prize distribution for the students who bought laurels to the college in various National Moot Court Competitions.


Day – 8 LAC Orientation


The Orientation program of Legal Aid Centre was conducted by Ms. Khushi Sodhi, Ms. Priyamvada Chandel for Legal Aid Centre, Ms. Kanan Joshi, and Ms. Gargi pant for Pro-Bono Club. The event was marked by the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat HOD (Law) and Deputy Director, LAC; Mr. Abhiranjan Dixit, Faculty In Charge, LAC, and Mr. Amit Kumar. The session was started by Mr. Amrit Raj Dubey by a warm welcome to the freshers. Ms. Kushi Sodhi briefed on the functioning of LAC and how this society is a prominent part of the Law College Dehradun. Moving forward, Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat addressed the gathering who welcomed the students to the program and talked about the impact of society and its importance for a law student and the society. She ended up her speech by introducing the Pro Bono Club which aims to provide legal assistance and promote Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism. Ms. Chandel explained the activities and events that took place under the aegis of the Legal Aid Centre while Ms. Kanan Joshi went on to explain what Pro-Bono club means and its significance. Mr. Sudeep Chandra delivered the vote of thanks and shared his experience with the students and motivated everyone to be a part of the society.


Day – 9 YPS Orientation


The Youth Parliament Society of Law College Dehradun conducted its orientation session with the enlightening words of Dr. Bhawna Arora, Chairperson, Youth Parliament Society. Ms. Saakshi Suneja took over and introduced the members of Youth Parliament Society to the newcomers and elucidated the functioning of the Youth Parliament Society. Mr. Shubham Mishra further explained the nuances and technicalities of Model United Nations and Youth Parliament to the future parliamentarians of Law College Dehradun, and he quoted several practical examples to keep the audience attentive. He questioned students about the Parliament and United Nations to keep the session interactive. Further, Ms. Aarushi Singh briefed the induction process and why


one must become a part of Youth Parliament Society. The three of them used the mode of PowerPoint presentation for developing better understanding among the students. Ms. Niharika Jha, Vice- President, Youth Parliament Society delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the orientation program which was then followed by the National Anthem.


Day – 10 Vasundhara – The Green Society


Vasundhara- The Green Society of Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University, conducted an Orientation Program for the newly admitted students. Embracing the culture and the traditions that mark the start of an event in our university, opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Lakshya Verma, PRO of Vasundhara- The Green Society, who extended a hearty welcome to the gathering.


Hon’ble Patron in chief Prof. (Dr). Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor Uttaranchal University stated how the society has been close to his heart and that the purpose of establishment of society is to enforce the words of the scientists and various environmentalists on ground level as a contribution towards the public service. Further the Chairperson Dr. Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri sensitized everyone that the society works and organizes events related to environment protection and conservation. Further Lakshay Verma, PRO, Vasundhara- The Green Society shared his experience as a member of the society and the stage was further adhered by Ms. Divyanshi Dwivedi who focused on making the students aware about the working of the society and how is it contributing to the environment at large and the process of induction. She also mentioned various luminaries who have been a part of our events including Ms. Jennifer Stevenson from William and Mary Law school, University of Washington, Prof. Benjamin Sovacool , professor of science policy research unit, University of Sensex. , Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Tandon, Uttarakhand High court and chairperson State Law Commission , Mohd. Rafeeq, founder of V Legal and many more and the very efficient pilot study of the adopted village “Nakatpura”.


Day – 11 Sports Committee


“A Healthy mind in a healthy body”, with this aim Sports committee of Law College Dehradun faculty of Uttaranchal University conducted its Orientation program for the session 2022-2023. The program began with the introductory session by Miss Tanya, executive member of Sports committee of Law College Dehradun. Further Miss Mansi Pandey, Co- coordinator of sports committee explained the detailed structure of sports activities conducted which was followed


by the Question- Answer session. Miss Mansi clarified all the doubts raised by the students. This was followed by the motivational address of Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor Uttaranchal University, Dean, Law College Dehradun, Patron, Sports Committee.


Day- 12 Cultural Society


Cultural society of Law College Dehradun under the aegis of Uttaranchal University commenced its orientation with words of wisdom by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean Law College Dehradun followed by a welcome speech by Sagar Tiwari. The event proved to be an overwhelming one as Jitendra Kohli showcased his marvelous singing performance. Further Ms. Ayushi Singh took over the stage and explained the history, functionaries, perks of being a member and the induction procedure. She also focused on the point that cultural society creates good vibes and kills stress in the busy hours of academic interaction in the college. Further the question-and-answer session was conducted by Rijul Goel in which all the queries of the young students were resolved. The event was successfully concluded with the most interesting part as some glimpses of the society was shown through a video presentation to the young students and by the vote of thanks given by the President of Cultural Society, Ms. Ayushi Yadav.


Day 13 & 14 Ice-Breaking sessions


Ice breaking activities are fun loving activities, intended to bring the students out of their little shell. New environment, experience and new friends can be an overwhelming experience for the new students. Ice-breaking sessions can be tough and awkward to think of, but these activities help the students to get an acquaintance with their senior fellows and make some new friends. This activity was conducted as three sessions for the students of B.A.LL.B., BBA. LL.B., and L.L.B., students. Here the newcomers where asked to introduce themselves in the presence of the senior students. This sets the tone of junior – senior relationship for the entire course and ensures the students feel confident for the journey that lies ahead.
