The one-day online Webinar on “Skills and Innovation in Research Writing” was organised by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 27 August 2022 to enhance the opportunities endowed to the young scholars that would improve their abilities to write research articles. Dr Rajeev K Singla, Researcher, Frontiers Science Centre for Disease-Related Molecular Network, Institutes for Systems Genetics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu China was the resource person. The webinar was attended by more than 100 attendees including students, scholars, and faculty members of different Institutes. The Webinar was started with a welcome note by Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS.

Dr Singla explained how to inculcate the habit of Research in academics and process-related publication in open-access research journals like SCI and ESCI. He also emphasised being honest while conducting any research and various methods of performing the research in a triplicate manner to avoid the error. He encouraged students to make a proper laboratory notebook for writing up the observations and the key findings while performing their work. He pointed out the key mistakes done by the writers that leads to the rejection of the paper like not reading the manuscript properly, the cover letter of their work not being presentable, Title remaining over expressive, submission of research work in multiple journals at a time, putting the designation on the paper where it is not required, forgetting to mention the corresponding authors’ information properly, missing to mention the country where the research is done.  He also emphasised writing keywords, abstracts, material and method, conclusion, and references in a proper manner. Dr Singla further explained the open access journals and demonstrated how to check the authenticity of the journal, as well as to choose the journal wisely. The webinar ended with a Q&A session. The interactive session was coordinated by Dr Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor and Ms Shivani, Assistant Professor UIPS. The session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Tarun Parashar.
