World Environment Day was celebrated in the School of Applied & Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University by organizing a seminar on “Circular Economy & Sustainability”. The World Environment has been celebrated every year on June 5th, since the Stockholm Conference of 1972. This year the slogan is “Only One Earth”, with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. This day marks the importance of our natural resources and the initiatives that are required to preserve them, thus creating awareness about the essential need of providing protection to our mother nature. Eco club of Uttaranchal University organized a Seminar on “Circular Economy for Environmental Sustainability,” to mark the celebration of World Environment Day on 6th June 2022.
The event was inaugurated by lamp lighting. Everyone was given a warm welcome by the Coordinator Eco-Cops and Coordinator UNAI, Uttaranchal University, Prof.(Dr.) Bharti Ramola. She stressed the need for judicious utilization of resources for a sustainable future.
In his welcome address, Dean SALS, Prof.(Dr.) Ajay Singh, stressed the need to keep our ‘Only Earth’ green and clean. The only planet where all living beings can survive. How all students as Eco- Cops can be a resource to protect our Earth.
The Seminar was joined virtually by the guest speaker, Dr. R. K. Jain, Technical Expert, United Nations Industrial Development Organization. He explained how sustainability goals can be achieved by combining various disciplines and following the circular economy to achieve sustainability.
Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University in his speech stressed the utilization of technology for reducing carbon footprints. The circular economy can be helpful in tackling the global challenges of pollution, climate change, waste management etc.
During the event Dean UIT, Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Pandey, Dean SOA, Prof.(Dr.) Mahipal Singh, Principal UP, Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Shah and members of faculty from various colleges of Uttaranchal University, Prof.(Dr.) Poonam Negi, Dr. Waseem Ahmad, Mr. Gaurav Negi, Mr. Rohit Dhiman, Ms. Anamika Thapa, Dr. Sadhana Awasthi along with a large number of students were present.
