A Hospital Visit was conducted as part of the observance of the 64th National Pharmacy Week. The event took place on 26 November 2025 from 11:00 AM onwards at the State Mental Health Institute, Selaqui, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This initiative aimed to supplement academic learning with real-time exposure to mental healthcare practices and strengthen the practical understanding of pharmacy students.
A total of 40 students from D.Pharm (1st and 2nd Year) and two faculty members, Bhavya Gupta and Ashish Singh Chauhan, from the Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) participated in the visit. The students were introduced to clinical working environments within the mental health sector, gaining insights into patient care, therapeutic approaches, medication management, and rehabilitation strategies for individuals with psychiatric conditions.
The staff at the institute guided the students through various departments and treatment units, explaining their roles in ensuring comprehensive patient care. The visit helped students understand the importance of pharmacists in mental health settings, specifically regarding psychopharmacology, drug monitoring, patient counselling, and interdisciplinary coordination with doctors and therapists.
The event was successfully organized and coordinated under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sumit Durgapal, Dr. Yogita Tyagi, and Dr. Pallavi Chand. Their support and supervision ensured effective learning, safety, and smooth execution of the hospital visit. The experience significantly contributed to enhancing clinical awareness, empathy, and professional readiness among pharmacy students. This visit is conducted in accordance with PCI Regulations, which mandate that Diploma in Pharmacy students must undergo at least one hospital or healthcare facility visit as part of their curriculum.
