On World Mental Health Day, the Women Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized an engaging and interactive session on Gender Sensitization and Mental Health. The event aimed to raise awareness about mental well-being while addressing gender-based challenges faced by individuals. The guest speaker was Dr Ankita Priyadarshini, MBBS, MD Psychiatry, Founder & Clinical Head of Thriving Minds. The event commenced with the lamp-lighting ceremony.
Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Director, Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, emphasized the importance of equality, stating that everyone possesses the potential to succeed and should be given equal opportunities, starting with equal treatment within our own homes. He stressed that talent must be supported regardless of gender. Additionally, he pointed out the growing stress levels among young generation and underscored the importance of exercise and mental health care.
The session’s keynote speaker, Dr Ankita Priyadarshini shed light on the link between mental health and gender sensitization. She highlighted that women are statistically more susceptible to mental health challenges than men, due to both biological factors and the societal pressures they face, including discrimination, unequal power dynamics, and the burden of managing multiple roles. Dr Priyadarshini emphasized that gender sensitization is essential, not only to mitigate mental health disparities but also to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment, particularly in workplaces.
Dr Tilottama Singh, the Head of the Department, UIM, further emphasized the importance of creating awareness among the younger generation about mental health and gender sensitivity and concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks. She expressed deep gratitude to Dr Ankita Priyadarshini for her enlightening and thought-provoking address, acknowledging the importance of her insights on the intersection of mental health and gender sensitization.
