Faculty of Nursing, Uttaranchal College of Nursing, Uttaranchal University, arranged one-day educational expedition on 29 April 2024 to Indian Red Cross Society State Branch, Uttarakhand, for
B .Sc Nursing IV semester students. During this educational tour, Mr Munshi Chaumwal, Disaster Management Coordinator at Indian Red Cross Society Uttarakhand, interacted with us about first aid care and how the Indian Red Cross Society members interact with victims who face sudden emergency situations. The whole interaction of this educational tour is divided into three sessions.
In the first session, Mr Munshi Chaumwal shared his knowledge of first aid and then shared a pamphlet with everyone and talked about the founder and the work of the Indian Red Cross Society.
In the second session, Mr Munshi Chaumwal highlighted his team's commitment to delivering first aid assistance, sharing real-life scenarios where such aid was crucial. He stressed the essence of first aid as immediate care, particularly for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest. Throughout the session, he extensively covered CPR techniques, cardiac emergency management, bandaging methods, and strategies to mitigate severe bleeding. Utilizing a CPR dummy, Mr Chaumwal provided a thorough demonstration of the CPR procedure, underlining the significance of the ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) sequence and accurate compression ratios. Encouraging active participation, he allowed students to practice CPR on the dummy, ensuring they gained practical proficiency in emergency response.
In the concluding session, Mr Chaumwal conducted an orientation tour of the Indian Red Cross Society office premises. Other staff members showcased additional first aid resources, enriching the participants' understanding of first aid services. Ms Gulshan Attri and Ms Arti Pundir, Nursing Tutors of UCN, expressed gratitude to the Indian Red Cross Society for their invaluable assistance and the enriching learning experience.
