Law College Dehradun conducted Research and Pleading program- A Training initiative which included a series of events. The first session commenced on 30th of March, 2023 by Dr. Vaibhav Uniyal, Assistant Professor, LCD on "Research Methodology", the session revolved around the nitty and gritty of research, the need of extensive research for a moot problem and how to present research in oral pleadings.
The second session was taken by Ms. Ashwarya Bansal and Mr. Siddhant Pant on Memorial Drafting where participants were shown how to draft a faultless memorial and understand the core concept behind a memorial and its submission. The third session was taken by Mr. Hitesh Bhatt, Assistance Law Officer, NTPC, on the importance of mooting for a law student, the framework of a moot court and how mooting is an art of resilience. The final session was taken by Mr. Shivansh Agarwal on how to research for Moot Memorials, and the available databases.
The judge for the Mock Demonstration was Ms. Shaktija Singh Baghel. Petitioners for the Mock Demonstration were Mr. Siddhant Pant and Ms. Aditi Shrivastava and Respondents were Ms. Jyoti Pratap and Ms. Astha Shrivastava, the court masters for the mock were Mr. Zaid Khan and Ms. Mitali Negi. Following this, Mr. Aishwary Vikram Singh Baghel provided information regarding the timings of the pleading and submission of the memorial as well as the commencement of pleading rounds.
A total of 154 teams registered who were later divided into 8 different groups on the basis of their year of study. The groups were assigned with their respective moot mentor who were the senior members of the society along with moot proposition. There were 5 different moot problems based on two different themes namely, Constitutional Law and Law of Torts.
The final step of the program was the Oral Pleading Rounds, which were conducted on 18th and 19th of April so that, the participants after successfully drafting and researching gets an opportunity to understand the art of advocacy and its practical application. The Pleadings were adjudged by the senior members of the society. The event was successfully concluded with the combined efforts of both the society members and the participants.
