The School of Liberal Arts conducted an insightful session led by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Director, Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) on 20 February 2025. Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Director, SLA inaugurated the session with a warm welcome address. The session focused on enhancing research skills, improving academic writing, and understanding the importance of credible sources and citations. During the session, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh reviewed students' research papers, highlighting common mistakes such as weak thesis statements, improper structuring, lack of coherence, and grammatical errors. He emphasized the importance of critical analysis rather than simply summarizing existing literature and encouraged students to strengthen their arguments with well-researched evidence. A significant part of the discussion focused on the importance of proper citations in academic research. Prof Singh stressed that missing or incorrect citations can affect the credibility of a paper and even lead to plagiarism. He advised students to refer to reputable sources such as journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, and platforms like Nature, IEEE Xplore, and 2 ScienceDirect. He also explained different citation formats (APA, MLA, IEEE, etc.) and how proper referencing strengthens the authenticity of research. Prof Singh also guided students on exploring multidisciplinary research, selecting the right journals for publication, and avoiding predatory publishers. He provided insights into structuring papers effectively and ensuring clarity in research objectives. The session concluded with an interactive discussion where students asked questions related to literature reviews, data validation, and research methodologies. Prof Singh’s expert advice provided students with practical strategies to refine their research work and improve their academic writing. The session was coordinated by Dr Anju Singh, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts.
