The Department of Civil Engineering organized an industrial visit to Suryadhar Barrage in Dehradun on 11 March 2024 providing students with an insightful exploration into water resource management and hydraulic structures. The barrage, situated in a crucial location for the region's water supply and irrigation, served as a focal point for the visit. During the visit, students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the barrage's functioning and significance in water management.

Mr Pankaj Rawat, the operational engineer, led a guided tour, explaining the construction, operation, and role of the barrage in regulating water flow for various purposes. Students also observed the infrastructure, including gates, channels, sensors and operating systems, used for controlling and diverting water. Mr Rawat provided valuable insights into the engineering principles behind these structures.

Furthermore, the visit involved an assessment of environmental impacts where students grasped the barrage's effects on the local ecosystem, spanning flora, fauna, and aquatic life. Discussions on mitigation were held, emphasizing efficient water management's importance for agriculture, drinking water, and ecology. The visit enhanced understanding of renewable energy and environmental conservation, providing invaluable insights for modern sustainability challenges.
