On Global Women's Breakfast Day, the American Chemical Society-Uttaranchal University (ACS-UU) International Chapter and the Resonance Club (Chemistry) organized an event on topic "Breaking Barriers in Science". The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in association of American Chemical Society organises this event every year to honour the achievements that women all over the world have made to the fields of science and technology. This event, sponsored in partnership with the United Nations, highlights the achievements of Women in Science and offer a forum for women and men to network and discuss ways to close the gender gap in science.
The seminar commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Dr. Ajay Singh, Dean (School of Applied and Life Sciences), Dr. Bharti Ramola, (Head-Women Cell (SALS), Dr. Amit Anthwal, Dr. Deepika Dangi and Mr. Shivam Pandey.
Tuba Urooj, student of M.Sc. Chemistry hosted the event and gave a brief introduction about the event and its importance which was followed by keynote lecture by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Dean, School of Applied Life Sciences at Uttaranchal University. In his keynote lecture, he emphasised on the contributions made by women in the scientific area and underlined the importance of diversity in the scientific arena. He emphasised on the significance of women working in scientific and technological fields and how they have broken every barrier in their life and made their mark. Nandini Sharma, an undergraduate student of Chemistry gave insights about IUPAC and its importance which was followed by some wonderful presentations by students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry and B.Sc. Life Sciences (CBZ). Shagun Manwal, Swalin Mansoori, Urvashi Pandey, Harshvardhan Rana, Aditya, Prachi Mishra and Mehar Fatima were among the students who gave some wonderful presentations on various women who have been a shining star in their fields and broke the various stereotypes of the society.
The event was attended by about 60 students from the discipline of Chemistry. Mr. Shivam Pandey finished the event with a gracious Vote of Thanks in which he expressed his gratitude for Prof. Dr. Ajay Singh for his constant support in conducting events like these and also thanked the host and all the other participants for such wonderful presentations. Everyone commended the event organiser, Mr. Shivam Pandey, for a job well done in coordinating the event. Everyone had a great time at the event and learned about one of the most important issues of the 21st century: Achievement of women in field of science.
