The Department of Civil Engineering, Uttaranchal Institute of Technology successfully completed a five-day Technical Workshop on "Wind Tech 2024: Mastering Wind Load Analysis" from 7 to 11 October 2024. The workshop, tailored for III and IV year Civil Engineering students, was led by Prof Ashok Kumar Ahuja, a retired professor from IIT Roorkee and a renowned expert in wind engineering.
The sessions covered key topics essential for structural design, including the evaluation of wind loads on buildings and other structures with special reference to the Indian Standard IS:875-Part 3. Prof Ahuja provided insights into types of structures, structural loads, and windstorms, while also discussing the atmospheric boundary layer, basic and design wind speeds, and methods for evaluating wind loads using pressure and force coefficient methods.
Students also explored advanced topics such as terrain and interference effects, the impact of openings, experimental techniques for wind load evaluation, and the use of wind tunnels and modelling criteria. The workshop was highly beneficial for participants, providing them with a solid foundation in wind load analysis and its practical applications in structural design, thus enhancing their academic and professional readiness.
