Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University, organized an impactful anti-drug workshop titled "Substance Free Living: Building Drug Free Campus Together" on 14th August 2026 under the aegis of the Anti-Drug Committee. Dr. Nisha Singla, Consultant Psychiatrist, Gandhi Shatabdi District Hospital, Dehradun was the keynote speaker of the session and the event aimed at promoting awareness regarding substance abuse and foster a healthier academic environment.
The program commenced with the formal felicitation of the guest speaker, Dr. Nisha Singla, by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Dean of Law College Dehradun, and Chairperson of the University Anti-Drug Committee, alongside Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat, Principal of Law College Dehradun.
Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna in his opening address, highlighted the critical responsibility of educational institutions in curbing substance abuse. He also emphasized the institution's firm commitment to maintaining a safe, vigilant, and drug-free campus environment while encouraging students to make informed and responsible choices.
The highlight of the event was an expert interactive session conducted by Dr. Nisha Singla, who addressed the psychological and physiological impacts of drug dependency. Drawing from her professional expertise as a consultant psychiatrist, she discussed the early indicators of addiction, healthy coping mechanisms for managing academic stress, and practical strategies to resist peer pressure. The interactive nature of the session provided an open platform for students to engage directly with the speaker and clarify common misconceptions regarding substance use.
The workshop concluded on a resolute note with a collective oath taking ceremony. All attending students, faculty members, and committee representatives took a solemn pledge against drug use, committing to lead substance-free lives and actively contribute toward building a drug-free campus and society.
